E&R BALLROOM DANCE
ABOUT E&R BALLROOM
E & R Ballroom Dance has been active in the ballroom dance community in Victoria since 1995. It started out as McGregor Dance Studio and sadly, in 2014, Elizabeth’s husband Lee passed away. Elizabeth’s subsequent re-marriage to Ron has resulted in our new name of E & R Ballroom Dance. Elizabeth has over 30 years of ballroom dance experience, with over 25 of those years as a professional. Elizabeth is one of the most highly qualified ballroom dance instructors in BC, being one of the few to have achieved the highest qualification possible, that of fellowship, as well as being appointed an official examiner with regard to amateur and professional ballroom dance exams.
We believe that ballroom dance is the perfect activity for everyone, regardless of age or experience. It provides physical, mental and social benefits. Studies have proven that engaging in ballroom dance helps in the management of cognitive issues such as dementia. Our brains get much needed mental exercise in learning new dance styles and new step patterns. It is an activity that is done to music, which is an art form that many people love and we instinctively yearn to move to. Ballroom dancing as a physical activity can range for very mild to truly aerobic, depending upon the physical capability and desire of the individual. It provides a much-needed social outlet. Many friendships have been formed and new relationships started. People love ballroom dancing not just for the artform itself, but because it is also a social activity that we enjoy with our significant others and friends.
We invite you to join us in an exploration of the wonderful world of ballroom dancing.
GROUP DANCE CLASSES
Group classes are fun, social and economical. Classes are offered in multiple locations throughout the Greater Victoria and Cowichan Valley areas. Currently, we’re offering the following group dance classes:
- Social Ballroom Dance Classes – Our most popular option! Beginners and seasoned dancers will enjoy styles like the Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Rhumba, Cha Cha, Jive and more, over an 8-10 week course.
- Mini-courses – A great way to focus on 1 or 2 dance styles including the ones listed above and more such as West Coast Swing, Viennese Waltz or Salsa over a 4-5 week course.
We are available for private lessons and can help you in the following situations:
you require extra help with the material you are learning in group class (perhaps you have missed a class or two)
you would like to learn a particular dance, work on your technique, or add to your repertoire
The Wedding Reception traditionally includes a solo dance for the Bride and Groom. This aspect of your special day deserves as much attention to detail as the ceremony, bridal dress and banquet, yet is often overlooked and too often the Bride and Groom simply “hug and sway”, simply because they do not know what else to do. We do a great deal of wedding dance preparation and would be pleased to assist you.
SOCIAL BALLROOM DANCES & WORKSHOPS
We would like to invite and encourage you to put those ballroom dance lessons to good use and please join us for one of our hosted social ballroom dances. They are fun, safe, friendly and non-intimidating and an opportunity to meet and make friends with others in the ballroom dance community while keeping your dance skills fresh. It doesn’t matter if you’ve been dancing for one week or 20 years; all are welcome.
BALLROOM DANCE PRACTICE SESSIONS
You will get so much more out of your dance classes if you are able to find a little time to practice in between to keep your dancing skills refresh and help you retain what you are working on in class. Plus they are a great opportunity to enjoy a social night out with others in the ballroom dance community and spend some time with your friends (or make new ones!). We offer two practice session nights per week, from 7:00 – 8:30.
